Björkdalsgruvan is located near Sandfors, outside Skellefteå, and is one of Northern Europe´s largest mines for gold ore extraction. A relatively young mine, Björkdal employs over 240 dedicated and driven staff along with numerous contractors. The mine has an annual turnover of approximately 840 million SEK and is owned by Mandalay Resources, a Toronto-based, TSX-listed company.

As a Senior Exploration Geologist, you carry significant responsibility and prioritize safety within the geology department. You´re in charge of prospecting planning in consultation with the Chief Geologist, ensuring safety regulations, departmental risk assessments, personnel, and work environment management.

Your main responsibilities include:

Personnel management with workplace safety accountability and year-round resource allocation.
Lead and distribute work in line with the company´s leadership philosophy.
Foster continuous improvement and development.
Plan prospecting activities according to upcoming production needs.
Participate in contract negotiations and construction meetings with contractors.
Prepare draft press releases.
Create presentations and reports for the group.
Coordinate drill core planning with production planning for cost-effective drilling.
Contribute to concession applications.
Participate in writing technical reports.

You will be entering a culture characterized by safety, collaboration, and optimism. As a Senior Exploration Geologist, you´ll be part of the geology department, collaborating with 16 skilled colleagues in mine geology, resource geology, prospecting, as well as geological assistants and diamond drillers.

You will be leading the prospecting department, supervising 7 team members including exploration geologists and geotechnicians, reporting directly to the Chief Geologist.

Your working hours will be daytime, Monday to Friday.

We are seeking someone with a background in geology, several years of geological work experience, and strong interpretive skills for existing 3D information. Prior leadership experience is a significant plus but not mandatory. Previous work with geological software like Surpac, Leapfrog, and QGIS is advantageous.

With your budget responsibility for the prospecting department, strong analytical and proactive capabilities are expected. As you´ll be preparing material for press releases and new investment decisions, effective communication skills and a systematic approach are essential. You are motivated to coach others, effortlessly instilling engagement and trust through your experience and leadership ability.

This role demands proficiency in both English and Swedish as it involves technical report writing presented to both the management team and the owners of Björkdalsgruvan, Mandalay Resources. A valid driver´s license (B-driving license) is required due to limited public transportation.
